YMCA OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE

2022 FINANCIAL SUMMARY

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee made significant financial strides in 2022 as the organization rebounded from the COVID-19 pandemic and positioned ourselves for growth in the years ahead.

We recognized 11% annual revenue and public support growth in 2022. Membership revenue was within 10% of pre-pandemic levels by the end of the year, and program revenue improved significantly over 2021 as well. We received forgiveness of our $8.9 million Paycheck Protection Program loan, and were awarded $20.2 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grants in 2022 to stabilize childcare services (with $9.9 million recognized in revenue for the year and the remainder in deferred revenue).

Program services expenses increased in 2022 along with revenues, with more than 86% of total expenses allocated to programs.

We began several major construction projects in 2022, including significant renovation of the Brentwood and Green Hills Family YMCAs. The Downtown YMCA is in the midst of a major renovation scheduled to be completed in 2024. These projects will be funded primarily through real estate sale proceeds received in 2022 and a capital campaign. The sale of a portion of the Downtown property footprint led to a $25.1 million gain on sale of property in 2022.

We look forward to continuing to lay the foundation for long-term sustainable growth while investing in our community’s collective health and well-being.
